1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (NIV) Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
As we see in the passage above, verse 11 indicates that God apportions out these gifts to each member of any particular local Body of Christ as He determines is profitable and edifying to that Body (church, fellowship, etc…) There is a saying that goes, “God equips those he calls.” He does that by teaching them through the Scriptures, and by apportioning Gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is okay to ask for one or more of these gifts. It is okay to be an Isaiah and answer the call to serve as an Ultimate Fighter For Christ.
FOUR GIFTS PROFITABLE TO THE UFFC Prayer Warrior
* What is the message of Wisdom? – The message of wisdom gift is a manifestation of the gift of the Holy Spirit given by God for guidance or direction about what to do in any given situation. This gift is common among the clergy, ministerial leaders, and pastors
* What is a message of Knowledge? – A message of knowledge is a manifestation of the gift of the Holy Spirit wherein God or the Lord Jesus Christ provides you inside information, insight, and understanding about something spiritually related. A message of knowledge is common for worship leaders and spiritual counselors.
* What is the gift of Faith? – The gift of faith may be defined as the special gift whereby the Holy Spirit provides you with extraordinary confidence in God’s promises, power, and presence so you can more than confidently stand righteous in any situation. This gift is common with prayer warriors.
* What is the gift of Distinguishing Between Spirits? – The gift of distinguishing (or discerning) between spirits is a supernatural revelation about the spiritual condition or circumstances surrounding a person, place, or thing. There are four different kinds of spirits in the world. (1) Spirit of God-Holy Spirit (2) Angelic spirits (3) Evil spirits (4) Human spirit
The Gospels and Epistles speak a great deal about prayer and how important it is. In fact, all Christians are instructed to pray without ceasing, or continually. I like to think of this as having an ongoing conversation with God. Engaging in spiritual warfare is a specific calling and not one to be taken lightly. Jesus prayed for all Christians by asking God to protect us while we are in the world. (John 17:15-16) Though the end result of spiritual warfare can be witnessed in the world, the battle takes place in a spiritual realm. God has already won the battle for eternity. The gifts of Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, and Discernment will ensure you overcome in the present.
How Do We Receive These Gifts?
Luke 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 8:14-17 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Acts 19:1-7 1 It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. 2 He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. 7 There were in all about twelve men.
The Greater Gifts
1 Corinthians 12:29-31 – 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3, 13 – 1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing..
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
These last two verses from 1 Corinthians 13 sums it up. Without Agape Love, the tools, weapons and tactics of spiritual warfare are harmless to the enemy, and may result in self-harm if attempted without Agape Love. Agape is the type of love we must use to love our enemies. The type of love that would compel us to stand in the gap for a sinner filled with dark spirits, so that he or she may also know the sweet freedom there is in Salvation through Christ. In Jesus name, for God’s Glory. Amen
