It’s not only knowledge that qualifies you as an effective warrior for Christ, but obedience also.
1. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
4. Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
5. Slaves, (employees) obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.
9. And masters, (business owners) treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.
- Obedience as children
- Obedience as parents
- Obedience as employees
- Obedience as business owners
The less respect you have for those God has placed in power over you, and the less just you are to those under you, the less effective you will prove to be against the enemy when he comes against you.
Review Ephesians 6:10-18
- To be strong in the Lord as a warrior you are instructed to put on the Armor of God
- Your foes and battle is against those spirits and demons of the devil who are named as: rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
- The Day of Evil is every day.
- You are to stand your ground daily wherever you are, and you can expect at times, to be sent physically or by prayer into enemy territory to claim new territory for Christ.
- Agape Love through the Holy Spirit, along with prayer is the mode by which we enter into the battle.
What exactly is Armor of God The full Armor of God, along with Agape Love and fervent prayer provides the spiritual warrior with every tool and weapon needed to stand against and overcome the most powerful of spiritual adversaries. As with any tool or weapon, practice and experience will increase your ability to serve God in the spiritual realm as a spiritual warrior, as well as to protect yourself and loved ones. With any new tool or weapon, one must learn it’s function and how to use it.
FIRST OF ALL Think about where each piece of armor is positioned, and what it protects. In this study you will learn the armor as we put it on from head to toe for easy memorization.
V.17 The Helmet of SALVATION – Confessing Christ as your Savior and truly believing that God raised Him from the dead for your benefit is your oath to serve God as a spiritual warrior. Are you fully convinced that you’ve received Salvation in Christ and that you have been anointed to serve God? 2 Peter 1:10 You need to be. check here Evil spirits can harm you physically and spiritually if you are not absolutely and without question sure of your salvation. Acts 19:13-16 The problem is this… if you are not confident of your salvation, you are not wearing God’s Helmet of Salvation and the enemy is able to affect your thinking by what you hear and what you see. Remember, your works do not give power to the Helmet. God’s Salvation through Christ does.
V.14 Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS – The word righteousness and or righteous is used hundreds of times in the Bible. Go to the Greek translation (find link above in caps) for righteousness used in this scripture. You will find the appropriate definition, and be given the correct interpretation. It is both the Righteousness of God, and the righteousness accredited to you from God that covers and protects the spirit of the one upon which God’s word is written. Yours. The evidence of the Fruits of the Spirit in your life add strength to your breastplate.
V.16 Shield of FAITH – To say you have faith in God is a blanket statement. Do you have faith in all of God’s precepts and the teachings of Christ? The shield’s purpose is to block the wide range of attacks satan is ordering against you, perhaps even at this moment. But the shield does not provide a blanket of protection. It is only activated according to your faith. For instance, you may believe you are healed by the Stripes of Christ 1 Peter 2:24, but do not know about, or are unsure about your authority to cast out demons in Jesus name. Luke 10:19 Your lack of knowledge gives the enemy an opening whereby one of those fiery darts, flaming arrows, or a 45 caliber bullet will render your shield ineffective against that particular weapon (Demonic oppression, or a literal bullet fired from the gun of one possessed!) This is not to say that God will withhold His miraculous protection from you when your faith is weak, but it does mean that you must do all you can to stand on your own two feet to ensure your faith remains strong.
V.14 Belt of TRUTH – God’s Word contained in the Bible is Truth – John 17:16-18 “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I have also sent them into the world.” ‘Not of this world’ indicates that once you are reborn in Christ through baptism, you became more spiritual than flesh. Your heritage changes. The oldest ancestor of your family line is now Abraham. Gal. 3:28-29 and though you physically exist now in this world, you have also gained entrance and now exist in the spiritual world also.
Now here’s a truth. God’s truth must be written upon your spiritual heart. Even a deceitful heart can quote scripture from the Bible in order to lead a person astray. Matthew 7:15 But when you speak or pray scripture during spiritual warfare, it serves as the most powerful weapon against the devil himself! Matthew 4 More importantly though, God’s word protects your innermost core and needs to be incorporated and put to use in every aspect of your life daily. The way to increase the power of God’s word in your life is found in 2nd Timothy 2:15. Learn it, live it, and speak it often. Truth is never to be used to harm or to heap condemnation upon another human being.
V.17 The Sword of the SPIRIT – The Sword of the Spirit is the most powerful offensive weapon the armor provides us with. The definition is provided right within the verse. “–the word of God.” While the word of God is truth, the implication is a bit different than what is implied in the Belt of Truth. When you speak scripture (depending on when-where-for what purpose and how you use that scripture), you will likely see results. But in spiritual warfare, you must take great care. You’ve heard it said ‘practice what you preach’? This spiritual sword is also two edged. In-other-words, if you are not practicing what you preach and are engaged in spiritual warfare, you might wound the target, or the sword might ricochet off the target then bounce back and cut you with the other edge. (He was cut to the heart.) If that happens, disengage immediately, repent then go to your closet and pray!
V.15 Feet Fitted the Readiness of the Gospel of PEACE – This sounds complex on the surface but you already know that Christ instructs Christians to love (Agape) your enemies. And this chapter begins with the caveat, “Our battle is not against flesh and blood.” Remember though, our flesh is often attacked by lust, gluttony, greed, envy and other spiritual maladies like addiction that literally cause people to commit suicide in many different ways. Also be clear about this, a real person under the control of a violent spirit can and will harm you. In the best of outcomes, you will remain calm, be filled with Agape, and will cast that demon away before it can accomplish it’s marching orders to violate you. Then, you must be ready to share the Gospel of Christ with that person. Remember, it is not the person but the spirit controlling them that you will be in battle against. You may never be faced with such a situation. The best thing to remember is that the Gospel of Peace instructs us to always practice Agape, maintain the kind of Peace that passes all understanding, and be ready to share the gospel with that person who only moments before may have been intent on killing you or someone you love. The Gospel of Peace along with Agape immediately disarms and confuses every dark spirit.
V.18 PRAYER – You may ask yourself how does prayer relate to the Armor of God, and the answer would be a directive. Don’t leave home without it! Spiritual warfare is almost always conducted in the spiritual realm by prayer. There are few times when Christians are called to vocalize these prayers, but generally speaking, you must constantly pray without ceasing, all kinds of prayers, in order to effectively engage the enemy in daily spiritual warfare on behalf of yourself. UFFC God Blog will present a more thorough study on prayer next week as we hope to wrap up this study on the Armor of God.
In conclusion, there are different levels of spiritual warfare and different assignments for serving God in spiritual warfare, but the most fierce spiritual threats are the ones satan releases to attack you personally. People constantly say, “I’m not called to the spiritual warfare ministry.”, so they do nothing at all to receive the training and anointing of a spiritual warrior. They even reject it. Be advised, the majority of the battles you will face will be those within yourself. Paul was not speaking to a group of Christians in some mystic sect. He was speaking to all Christians. God is speaking to you. Be prepared.
Until next time, may you Praise Him, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, give the Holy Spirit your attention and reverence, and be blessed from the abundance of Heaven! In the name of Jesus, and for God’s glory. Amen
